I’m a passionate researcher in the area of Artificial Intelligence. My research interests span from computational social choice to deep learning. My studies are devoted to designing and providing artificial agents which are able to represent and reason with preference frameworks, ethical principles and moral values.
Presently, I’m an Assistant Professor at the
University of Brescia and a co-founder of the
TRustworthy AI Lab (TRAIL), an interdepartmental laboratory at the University of Brescia that aims to conduct research in the field of reliability and transparency of Artificial Intelligence solutions, adopting an interdisciplinary study approach.
I’m a former Research Associate at the
European University Institute where I was involved in an ERC project named
CompuLaw. The project studyies and develops law computation-oriented entities useful to automate decision processes in normative systems. Previously, I worked on a project funded by the
Future of Life Institute focused on embedding and reasoning with ethical principles in AI systems.
I’m a member of the group of experts of United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) and an Associate Editor of the AI Magazine, the journal of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). I actively participate in the public debate for the disclosure and sustainable development of technology. I co-author many papers and book chapters in the AI areas. I also serve as PC member and senior PC member in leading AI conferences (e.g., IJCAI, AAAI, AAMAS). I’m a co-inventor of a framework for algorithm portfolios based on machine learning techniques that was patented by IBM in 2017. I received my doctorate in Computer Science and the Laurea Magna cum Laude in Computer Science from the University of Padova.
